Banner signs that will extend over streets at major entry points to the Gaslamp Quarter downtown have been approved by the Gaslamp Quarter Council. If plans proceed on schedule, construction will begin in the fall, a council spokeswoman said at a press conference Thursday.
According to marketing committee chairman Jo-San Arnold, the signs will cost about $350,000. The permanent signs will display the quarter’s logo and will resemble over-the-street signs seen in historical photographs of the area, Arnold said.
Plans include placing signs in seven proposed sites in the 38-acre historic district that covers 16 1/2 blocks between 4th and 6th avenues and Broadway and San Diego Bay.
