A Burbank man was badly injured Thursday when his motorcycle struck a curb and he was thrown headfirst onto the pavement after a high-speed pursuit by police.

Anthony Graber, 26, was in fair but stable condition at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank with a broken shoulder and ribs and a head injury, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Detective Bob Elias said police had stopped Graber at 2:20 a.m. for driving erratically on Olive Avenue, just north of Glenoaks Boulevard.

As the officers approached on foot, Graber sped away, heading east on Olive Avenue, Elias said. The police pursued Graber for a mile at speeds up to 75 m.p.h., then south on Sunset Canyon Drive and onto Mountain Street, Elias said.

The chase ended minutes later when Graber crashed turning onto Thurber Place from Mountain Street, Elias said.
