Mom and Everyone Else Will Love the Weather This Weekend

You couldn’t have bought a better day than Thursday, and more of the same is in store for this weekend.

Clear to fair skies will prevail today and continue through Mother’s Day, forecasters said. Temperatures also should remain in the mid to high 70s after overnight lows of about 50.

“You really can’t ask for a better weekend forecast,” a National Weather Service spokesman said.

Winds might be a little high, perhaps gusting to 20-25 m.p.h. But otherwise, the weekend will be perfect for beachcombing, baseball (the Angels are in town) or taking Mom to an outdoor bistro.

Highs in Orange County on Thursday reached 72 in Santa Ana and 66 in Newport Beach after overnight lows of 52.

Weekend seafarers should find west winds to 18 knots and swells rising to three feet at times during the afternoons in the inshore waters from Point Conception to the Mexican border. Farther out, a small-craft advisory for northwest winds to 30 knots and combined seas to 12 feet was in effect Thursday afternoon, but forecasters said this condition should clear up by today.

High cloudiness is expected from time to time in the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains, with resort level temperatures in the low 70s and overnight lows a few degrees above freezing. Fair skies are predicted for the Sierra, with afternoon temperatures in the mid-60s.

Some high cloudiness is also predicted for both the northern and southern deserts, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s and low 80s in the north, and the low 90s around Palm Springs.
