4 Plead Not Guilty to Canoga Park Detective’s Killing
Four men accused of killing of a Canoga Park police detective who had testified against one of them pleaded not guilty Thursday in Van Nuys Superior Court.
The four, accused in the Oct. 31 slaying of Tom C. Williams, could receive the death penalty if convicted. Judge James Albracht set June 23 for the start of trial.
Charged are Daniel S. Jenkins, 30; Duane Moody, 28; Rubin A. Moss, 24, and Voltaire Williams, 23.
Each faces one count of murder and one of conspiracy to murder. Jenkins is also charged with the attempted murder of George Carpenter, 36, former manager of a North Hollywood theater complex.
Carpenter was shot in the face last July after he identified Jenkins as the man who robbed him in October, 1984.
Jenkins is to be sentenced today in San Fernando Superior Court in the theater robbery.
Shortly after testifying in that case, Williams was gunned down while picking up his 6-year-old son at a Canoga Park day care center.
