Santa Ana : Vendor Ordered to Keep Food Adequately Chilled

A firm that sells food in government and commercial office buildings has been ordered to keep its merchandise adequately chilled.

A judge Friday ordered the Santa Ana-based food vendor to refrain from offering refrigerated foods at temperatures above 45 degrees.

The preliminary injunction against Lori’s Kitchen and its owners was issued by Superior Court Judge Harmon G. Scoville at the request of county prosecutors.

The firm’s vendors sell lunches at the Santa Ana Civic Center, the City Center office complex in Orange and business centers in Newport Beach.

Last month, prosecutors asked for the order and damages, claiming Lori’s Kitchen had, on occasion, failed to keep some foods properly refrigerated.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Wendy Brough said meats, chicken, turkey and tuna are capable of supporting the growth of infectious microorganisms at temperatures above 45 degrees.

Scoville limited his order to banning the firm from “holding and displaying potentially hazardous refrigerated foods” unless it was kept below 45 degrees.
