Child’s Play Through personal experience, architect Gary Gilbar AIA and partner Marcia Herman, above, found a void in the range of furniture for children. Missing was a line of designs that appealed to parents and offspring. Gilbar first designed a few things and tested them out on his own children and friends with great success; he then decided to market them. In May 1985, Herman and Gilbar opened their store, Funiture, at 8451 Beverly Blvd., and they have continually added to their repertoire of colorful, whimsical, yet functional architectural designs, a few of which are shown above. For more information: (213) 655-2711. Trend or Faux? Neoclassic forms are among today’s major design forces. Functional furnishings such as the lamps at right echo the decorative use of architectural fragments. Made of cast plaster with a faux marble finish, the bases of these floor and table lamps have a soft, antique patina. At home in contemporary or classic settings. At the Kreiss Collection, West Hollywood.
