The Orange County Board of Supervisors asked the Legislature to provide funds for six more Superior Court judges because of heavy increases in civil and criminal cases. The board approved a request by Everett W. Dickey, presiding judge of the Superior Court, and other court officials to seek $770,000 per year to pay for the judges, which would increase the county’s total to 57. The supervisors also agreed to add another Superior Court commissioner to Probate Court, making a total of nine commissioners who hear Superior Court cases. The Legislature has the authority to create additional judgeships, and the state pays about 90% of a Superior Court judge’s salary and pension benefits.
