Ex-Lancaster Official Cleared in Land Case

Former Lancaster City Councilman Louis Bozigian was acquitted Tuesday of conflict of interest in connection with his vote favoring a street grid plan for undeveloped property that allegedly brought him $150,000 in real estate fees.

Jurors in the court of Los Angeles Municipal Judge David Doi found Bozigian innocent of the misdemeanor charge after a weeklong trial.

Bozigian, 59, who was mayor of Lancaster in April, 1984, when the vote was taken, was accused by the Los Angeles County Grand Jury of being the real estate agent for a party involved in plans to develop the area near the intersection of 10th Street West and Avenue K in Lancaster.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Candace Beason said Bozigian received a commission of about $150,000.

City Council members voted for the grid plan in their capacity as members of the Lancaster Redevelopment Agency. The property was in escrow at the time, Beason said.
