Anaheim : Woman, 27, Arrested in Male Neighbor’s Slaying
Police arrested a 27-year-old Anaheim woman Thursday in the shooting death of her neighbor after an argument in the man’s apartment.
Georgeanne C. Burzak was booked on suspicion of murder after Jeffrey Paul Straits, 26, was found dead on his kitchen floor Wednesday evening with a single gunshot wound to the head.
Police Lt. Bill Wright said Burzak and Straits, who lived in adjacent apartment buildings, were “casual acquaintances” who discovered during a conversation Wednesday afternoon they had a common interest in target shooting.
“She stated she had a gun. He said, ‘Let me see it.’ They go inside his apartment, there’s an altercation that ensues, and a shot was fired,” Wright said.
Strait’s father discovered his son’s body when he stopped by for a visit later that evening. Police said they arrested Burzak after interviewing her at police headquarters Thursday morning.
She was being held at Anaheim City Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
