Vinny Pazienza pounded his way to a lopsided unanimous 10-round decision over former champion Harry Arroyo at Providence, R.I., and may have earned a shot at World Boxing Assn. lightweight champion Livingstone Bramble.
Pazienza (19-1) went 10 rounds for only the second time, but was strong at the end, throwing 94 of his 784 punches in the final round. Arroyo (29-3) has lost three of his last six fights.
On the same card, Johnny Bumphus (29-1) of Mount Laurel, N.J., took the USBA welterweight title from Marlon Starling (37-4). Bumphus was unable to continue because of a gash on his head from a butt at the end of the sixth round, but was awarded the decision because he was ahead on points.
