Nicklaus Says He’ll Play Occasionally on PGA Senior Tour When He Is 50

Jack Nicklaus, for the first time, conceded Wednesday that he will make at least occasional appearances on the PGA Senior Tour when he reaches the age of 50.

Nicklaus, 46, won his sixth Masters title last month and will play host to his 11th Memorial tournament, starting today at the Muirfield Village Golf Club course. Nicklaus designed and supervised construction of the course.

Nicklaus has been vague on his attitude about the Senior Tour, for golfers 50 and older.

“I’ve sort of pooh-poohed the Senior Tour as it relates to what I’m going to do,” Nicklaus said. “I’ve said that’s several years away.

“What my intentions are would be to play the majors (Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA), play the Memorial tournament and one or two other Senior tournaments to prepare for the majors.

“In all fairness to the Senior Tour and the guys who have been out there, I’m going to play a few events. I do not intend to play the Senior Tour as a tour . There’s no way I’m going to have on my schedule eight or 10 tournaments and all of a sudden, when I get to age 50, start playing 20 tournaments. I’m not about to do that.”
