Aging Parents to Be Study Topic

“You and Your Aging Parents” will be the topic of a free workshop at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Shir HaMaalot Harbor Reform Temple, 2100 Mar Vista Drive, near the corner of Jamboree Road and Eastbluff Drive, Newport Beach.

Anna Kaufman, a family counselor for nearly 40 years, will focus on those caught between the needs of their parents and their own families.

The workshop is sponsored by the Jewish Family Service of Orange County and the Jewish Parenting Center of Shir HaMaalot, and is open to the public. Pre-registration is requested. For more information and to register, call Nancy Levin at (714) 644-7203.

Becky Maddox, 20, of Costa Mesa will spend five weeks this summer in Costa Rica as part of a 20-member missionary team from Mission Outreach Inc. To prepare for her work in the country’s remote mountains, Maddox will train for 10 days in Missouri at the Miracle Hills Ranch. When in Costa Rica, from July 2 to August 14, Maddox will work with fellow missionaries to build two cabins and a basketball court at “Camp La Hondura” for use by future missionary expeditions to the area.

The Joy Singers will perform at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1190 Morningside Drive, Laguna Beach. The five-member choir will sing folk songs and choral pieces. The Pope John Paul II Polish Center in Yorba Linda will hold its annual spring family picnic from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Long Beach pistol range at 7380 E. Lag B’Omer, the Jewish holiday commemorating unity, and Memorial Day will be celebrated aboard the Cormorant with a three-hour dinner cruise around Newport Harbor starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Sponsored by the Chabad of Irvine Jewish Center, the cruise will leave from the Lido Marina Village at 3366 Via Lido, Newport Beach. Our Lady Queen of Angels parish and school in Newport Beach will hold an “International Springfest” beginning at 11 a.m. May 31.
