Wide receiver James Maness, who tested positive for cocaine use this week, was waived by the Chicago Bears. Maness was tested along with the other Bear players at the team’s mini-camp. When the test results became available, the Bears said they were waiving Maness in accordance with “procedures clearly defined by the Bears and understood by Maness.”
Maness’ involvement with drugs was initially confirmed by club sources shortly after the Bears won the Super Bowl last January.
