The State : Escaping Prisoner Killed
A federal prisoner with a long criminal record was shot to death by U.S. marshals near Sacramento Metropolitan Airport while the prisoner was trying to escape. U.S. Marshal’s Service investigators identified the dead man as Thomas Forrer, 32, an accused drug dealer who gained notoriety in April, when he allegedly used a gun to force a Maryland social worker to give back Forrer’s infant son, whom Forrer had abandoned at an airport near Baltimore while fleeing from police. Marshals said Forrer, arrested recently on a warrant in Salinas, was shot when he ignored repeated warnings to stop after running from a van at a restroom stop. They said Forrer ran, despite being handcuffed and chained about the waist.
