Akron Will Continue Push Into Division I-A
The Mid-American Conference’s decision to reject the University of Akron’s application to join the league will not stop the school’s efforts to enter the NCAA Division I-A ranks, Athletic Director David Adams said recently.
Akron had hoped to replace departing Northern Illinois, but learned last week that the MAC Council of Presidents has decided to field a nine-team conference and not replace the lost team at all.
Adams said the school would move forward with plans to become a Division I independent by the beginning of the 1987 season.
