Anaheim : Council to Vote on Hot Food Ordinance

Share

A plan to outlaw the sale of hot food at gas station mini-marts where alcoholic beverages also are sold will be decided Tuesday by the City Council.

Last week, the council tentatively approved a proposed ordinance which would ban the sale of “food in unsealed packages, prepared food or any food heated on the premises” at places that sell alcoholic beverages and gasoline.

Councilman Lew Overholt, who proposed the law, argues that customers might buy cold beer or wine with their meal. If the food is hot, the driver might eat, drink and drive, Overholt reasoned.

Officials from Arco Petroleum Products Co. already have voiced opposition to the proposal, contending that there was no data to back up Overholt’s contention.

The law could affect up to 10 stores in Anaheim, City Atty. Jack White said.
