One woman was killed and six people were injured Monday in two unrelated traffic accidents in Reseda, authorities said.

Shirley Ann Allwine, 26, of Northridge, was killed about 5:15 p.m. when her car weaved across Roscoe Boulevard near Rhea Avenue and struck a small truck head-on, Los Angeles Police Officer Dennis Smith said.

Police were told that Allwine had developed epilepsy recently, “so we figure she may have had a seizure, which caused her to lose control of her vehicle,” Smith said.

The driver of the truck, Dennis Deese, 41, of Sylmar suffered a broken leg and other injuries and was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center in serious condition, Smith said.

Five young adults were hurt in the other accident, three critically, when the small car in which they were riding ran into a parked car about 7:53 p.m. near the intersection of Wilbur Avenue and Friar Street, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

One of those critically injured was airlifted to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. The others in the car were taken by ambulance to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills and the Medical Center of Tarzana.

Five ambulances and six engine companies responded to that accident, Wells said. The injured were not immediately identified.
