The former treasurer of a Clairemont PTA group who embezzled almost $3,700 in PTA funds to buy drugs was sentenced Tuesday to six months in a work furlough program and ordered to pay the money back.
Dewey Reeves, 38, who was treasurer for the PTA at Hawthorne Elementary School, was placed on four years’ probation by San Diego Superior Court Judge Richard Huffman, who also ordered Reeves to repay $3,669.97 to the PTA. Huffman also assessed a $200 fine.
Reeves’ attorney, Karen Iwrey, told the judge her client took the money “to support his drug habit.”
