Paramount : Council Salaries Raised
The City Council has voted unanimously to increase council salaries from $200 to $400 per month.
The five-member council Tuesday voted to raise the salaries in accordance with an amendment to state law that allows salaries to increase to $400 a month in general law cities with a population of 35,000 to 50,000. Paramount’s population is 39,750.
The Paramount salary becomes effective 30 days after approval. The council meets once a month. A survey by city staff of four neighboring general law cities provides the following monthly salary comparisons: Lakewood, which has 75,500 people, pays its council members $600; Hawaiian Gardens, with 11,500, pays its members $300; Bellflower, with a population of 56,407, pays $500, and Artesia, with 14,762, pays $300.
