Cudahy : Club Owner Awaits Ruling

Share

The City Council will wait until July 7 to decide if Silver Saddle Casino owner Charles R. King violated his municipal gambling license last month when his company bounced a $10,000 check that was to cover its April tax payment. City Manager John Porter said that at Monday’s council meeting King presented evidence indicating that the problem was triggered by a bookkeeping mix-up, not because King’s firm, Tanlo Inc., suffered from any lack of money. In fact, King covered the check within hours after city officials told him it had bounced, Porter said.

The operation of King’s casino has recently come under heavy scrutiny partly because a new City Council majority--opposed to card club gambling--was elected in April. In May, the city’s 4-year-old gambling law was nearly repealed in a referendum that pro-gambling voters won by a single ballot.
