Memorial services for Micco Marie Thompson, 78, educator and founder of People for Pets, will be held Saturday at the Westwood Memorial Park Chapel at 1 p.m.

For 23 years she operated Micco’s Playschool in Hollywood, a preschool attended by children of many prominent film stars.

She was killed last Friday in Running Springs, Calif., where she had moved. Mrs. Thompson had stopped on the highway to help a child who had been hit by a car when a truck inadvertently struck her.

Mrs. Thompson first opened her preschool in a house in Beverly Hills owned by James Mason. After three years, the enrollment became so large she moved to Hancock Avenue in West Hollywood.

About 10 years ago she closed the school and moved to Running Springs near Lake Arrowhead, where she established a children’s camp while also founding People for Pets, a support group for animals requiring veterinary care.

She is survived by a sister and a niece, both of her native Switzerland.
