But the Phoenix Suns Didn’t Have Larry Bird
About Scott Ostler’s column on the racial composition of the Boston Celtics:
I don’t know if the Celtic organization is racist. I would bet money, however, that there are at least two black players in the CBA, or the Philadelphia playgrounds for that matter, who could outplay Rick Carlisle and Greg Kite. Maybe Carlisle and Kite are just good cheerleaders with no talent, a la M. L. Carr.
I do find it curious that when discussing NBA basketball with a forever-ready sampling of 10 Celtic fans, nine will always tell us the Celtics’ racial composition is just one more good thing about the boys in green.
Phoenix for years tried the same racial mix. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t have Larry Bird to keep them afloat.
In the future, I think it would be wise to refrain from having two Celtic stories on the front page. I suspect that others, like myself, had trouble keeping their breakfast down.
