The Region : Few Clues Found in Wayne Crash Probe

Share

Federal investigators said they have found no evidence of obvious engine malfunction in the wreckage of the light plane that crashed after takeoff from Fullerton Municipal Airport Wednesday morning, killing veteran “eye-in-the-sky” traffic reporter Bruce Wayne. Wayne, 52, an employee of radio station KFI, died two weeks before his 25th anniversary as an airborne traffic reporter. Witnesses said they heard the Cessna Cardinal’s engine misfire during takeoff. National Transportation Safety Board investigators said a magneto, used to generate the electric current that provides the spark for the ignition, could have caused ignition failure, but was melted in the fiery crash and failed to yield any clues.
