Newport Beach : Police Ready for Party That Never Got Started

Share

Seventeen Newport Beach police officers were dispatched to the Balboa Peninsula Friday night for a rowdy party that never materialized.

Police had been tipped off about a flyer that had been circulated in Orange County high schools inviting students to “Remember Palm Springs. Well, be in Balboa Friday night.”

The flyer referred to the young Palm Springs visitors who during spring vacation literally tore up the town. “Someone was encouraging 20,000 cars to meet on the peninsula,” said police spokesman Trent Harris, adding that local police confiscated 1,000 flyers. “The plan was to meet and relive Easter week in Palm Springs. They encouraged kids to bring spray guns.”

Newport police closed off certain streets to prepare for the potential disturbance, but, in fact, nothing much happened except for a traffic gridlock.

“It turned out to be just a busy Friday night,” Harris said.
