About 150 entries are expected for the 82nd annual Huntington Beach Fourth of July Parade, which organizers say is recognized as the longest-running annual Independence Day parade in California and one of the largest privately funded civic events in the nation.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. and run for about 90 minutes, covering 1 1/2 miles of Main Street and Beach Boulevard, spokeswoman Jeri White said. After the parade, a community festival is scheduled at Seacliff Village, on Golden West at Yorktown Street, with food, drinks and entertainment.

An eight-kilometer run sponsored by the March of Dimes will start at 9 a.m. Olympic medalist Bill Toomey will fire the gun to start the race. The day’s activities will be capped with a 7:30 p.m. fireworks show at the Huntington Beach High School stadium, 1905 Main St.

Trophies will be awarded for all parade presentations and floats based on a reflection of the 1986 theme, “Let Freedom Ring,” as well as for design originality and spectator appeal.
