Sophia Loren, Billy Dee Williams and Hector Elizondo have the principal roles in “Mother Courage,” a TV movie CBS plans to broadcast next season. Loren plays a woman who, distressed by the condition of her addicted son, goes undercover to help law enforcement officials bust a $3.5-billion cocaine ring.

Kim Novak, who has acted in such films as “Vertigo,” “Of Human Bondage” and “Pal Joey,” will join the cast of “Falcon Crest” next season. According to CBS, she’ll be seen as “a mysterious woman on the run who, against her will, forms an unholy alliance with Richard Channing to destroy Angela Channing.”

Hart Bochner, who starred in the miniseries “East of Eden,” has been cast as Byron Henry in “War and Remembrance,” the sequel to ABC’s “The Winds of War.” That’s the role that was played by Jan-Michael Vincent in the earlier World War II miniseries. Jane Seymour is playing Byron’s wife, Natalie, whom Ali MacGraw portrayed the first time out. Robert Mitchum is reprising his role as Pug Henry.

And speaking of miniseries, CBS has scheduled “Ellis Island” for a three-night repeat. The drama, about a group of European immigrants who arrive in the United States in 1907, will air June 29, June 30 and July 1. It stars Peter Riegert, Greg Martyn, Faye Dunaway, the late Richard Burton, Milo O’Shea, Claire Bloom and Ben Vereen.

Two TV sons--Malcolm-Jamal Warner of “The Cosby Show” and Rob Stone of “Mr. Belvedere”--are teamed in “Edge of the World,” a new production for the “ABC Afterschool Special” series. The story deals with the subject of teen-age suicide.

Peter Ustinov will be back as detective Hercule Poirot again next season in a new Agatha Christie movie for CBS, “Murder in Three Acts.” Joining him in the picture, which is being filmed in Acapulco, are Tony Curtis and Emma Samms.

It’s time for NFL fans to start marking their calendars. ABC has three preseason games on tap for prime time in August: New England vs. St. Louis on Aug. 2, Cleveland vs. Miami, Aug. 15, and Dallas vs. Pittsburgh, Aug. 22.
