A27-year-old Tujunga man was killed late Saturday when he apparently lost control of his speeding car and plunged off the Ventura Freeway into the Los Angeles River near Griffith Park, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

Norman L. Taylor was killed when his car, which authorities estimate was traveling 70 m.p.h., hurdled off a Ventura Freeway overpass near Riverside Drive.

Taylor was thrown from the car when it hit the water, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
