Could I claim to be the proud holder of a “Hands Across the Sea” record?

In 1943 I met a GI in a London pub, we talked for about 20 minutes and before parting exchanged addresses. Over the years we have remained in touch.

Thirty years after our first meeting we again met in England and I was invited to my friend’s Hollywood home where I spent three unforgettable weeks being overwhelmed with kindness and loving care by my host and his many wonderful friends.

In 1980 my wife and I visited my friend in his Caribbean home on Montserrat.

Two years ago we spent five weeks in San Francisco visiting some of the many friends who had been to our home.

On Thursday we fly into Los Angeles to attend in Redlands the wedding of two very dear friends who were not even thought of in 1943!

What a wonderful end to a story that began in a London pub during the Second World War. I just had to share it with you.

God Bless America! God Save the Queen!
