Wayne Embry, former NBA player and executive, was named general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers and said he hopes to name a new coach within two weeks.

Embry denied reports that he has already selected former New York Knicks player Willis Reed as the coach to succeed recently fired George Karl and interim coach Gene Littles.

“There are several coaches we have in mind,” Embry said. “There are quite a few who have self-imposed themselves on my list. Willis Reed is a friend, but to my knowledge no one from the Cleveland Cavaliers has contacted Willis Reed, and I have not.”

Embry, 49, was most recently a vice president and consultant with the Indiana Pacers. He had previously been an executive with the Milwaukee Bucks for 14 years. At Cleveland, he replaced Harry Weltman, recently dismissed by the Cavaliers.
