A man angered in an apparent lovers spat opened fire with a handgun in a crowded Barrio Logan tavern late Friday night, killing a 22-year-old cocktail waitress and wounding two men before fleeing in a station wagon, police reported.

The unidentified gunman, described as being in his mid-30s, had been drinking at the Tipanan Meeting Place, 3586 Main St., about 11 p.m. He left but returned at about 11:15 with a gun and began firing.

Emily Delacruz Dales was hit in the chest with a bullet and died immediately, the San Diego County coroner’s office reported. She lived in the 200 block of Quintard Street in Chula Vista.

Wounded in the shooting were Miguel Mendez, 27, and Ambrosio Lecario, 25, undocumented aliens who were sitting at a table together. They were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where they were described as being in fair condition.

Police said the shooting apparently stemmed from a lovers quarrel but it didn’t involve Delacruz Dales.
