The Region : Suit Seeks County Aid in Voter Sign-Ups
In a move to register more minorities to vote, a coalition of civil rights organizations has filed suit against Los Angeles County. The group is seeking to require all county employees who routinely come into contact with residents to ask if they are registered to vote. Of the estimated 5.1 million eligible voters in the county, about 3.5 million are registered and majority of those are white. The county has blocked similar attempts in the past to involve its employees in voter registration drives.
