A large warehouse filled with paint and hardware, owned by the Santa Cruz Lumber Co., burned to the ground. Volunteer firefighters were alerted when the property in Felton already was a solid mass of flames that could be seen miles away. “It was like the whole world was on fire,” said one of the volunteers. Authorities said the adjacent Roaring Camp Narrow Gauge Railroad and forest land were saved from possible destruction by firefighters who wet down nearby areas. The owners of the burned property said they were unable to provide a dollar estimate of the damage. There was no suggestion of arson, but an investigation into the cause of the fire was underway, fire officials reported.
