Anaheim : Cars in Disneyland Area to Hear Traffic Reports

Share

Motorists cruising past the Anaheim Convention Center, Disneyland and Anaheim Stadium area soon will be able to tune in to a radio traffic report.

The low-power AM frequency, similar to one available at Los Angeles International Airport, will broadcast taped and live updates on traffic and the best routes to avoid congestion, Police Lt. James S. Thalman said.

City Council members Tuesday approved $28,500 to purchase the highway advisory radio system. Another $5,000 for the $33,500 system will be paid from operating expense accounts among the involved departments, Police Chief Jimmie D. Kennedy wrote in a report to the council.

The radio system is one of the recommendations in a short-range improvement plan to relieve congestion and improve traffic flow and safety for the busy tourist area.

Other recommendations include changing some single left-turn lanes into dual left-turn lanes and placing changeable message signs on the freeways, Thalman said.
