A federal judge in Los Angeles granted a preliminary injunction today freezing $11.8 million in assets of former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos and ruled that the Philippine government may sue Marcos under racketeering laws.

The ruling from U.S. District Judge Mariana Pfaelzer came after more than an hour of heated arguments between attorneys representing Marcos and his wife, Imelda, and lawyers representing the current Philippine government.
