Mitch Voges of Simi Valley was one of five Valley-area golfers to survive the first cut at the 75th California Amateur Championships at Pebble Beach.

Voges shot 78 on the Pebble Beach course Tuesday for a two-day total of 149 that put him in a tie for sixth place overall. Voges shot a one-under par 71 at Cypress Point on Monday.

Buz Greene of Thousand Oaks shot his second consecutive three-over par 75 Tuesday to join two golfers in a tie for seventh at 150.

Terry Roberts of Woodland Hills, Craig Steinberg of Van Nuys and Los Angeles City champion Jim Lundstrom of Chatsworth all qualified at the 157 cut-off. Roberts rebounded from an opening-round 80 to shoot 77 Tuesday. Steinberg and Lundstrom completed their second rounds with a pair of 79s.

Eight golfers from the Valley area failed to make the cut, which trimmed the field of more than 200 to 69. A final cut following the third round today will narrow the field to 32 for match play on Thursday and Friday.

The tournament concludes Saturday with a 36-hole final at Pebble Beach.

The last golfer from the Valley area to win the state tournament was Tarzana’s Duffy Waldorf in 1984. The defending champion is Santa Barbara’s Sam Randolph.
