Christian Wins Speedway’s Scratch Main
Alan Christian, U.S. champion from Huntington Beach, won the four-lap scratch main event of the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program at the Orange County Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa Friday night in front of 4,196 spectators.
Mike Faria of Colton was close but was never able to pass Christian and finished second. Steve Lucero of Riverside was third and Brad Oxley of San Clemente fourth.
In the five-lap handicap main, Oxley overcame a 40-yard handicap to win. Keith Larsen of La Canada finished second, Lucero third, Faria fourth, Scott Brown of New York fifth and Gary Hicks of Glen Avon sixth.
In his first appearence since being moved up from the third division, Dave Diaz of Huntington Beach won the five-lap second division race. Tony Frank of Long Beach won the third division race.
