Peter Jennings will be one of the anchors for ABC’s extensive coverage this week of festivities surrounding the centennial celebration of the Statue of Liberty. The array of events will include the re-lighting of the statue’s torch by President Reagan on Thursday, a review of 50 naval ships from 35 countries and a parade of Tall Ships on Friday, and a classical music salute on Saturday. The grand finale will take place next Sunday.
In all, ABC has 17 1/2 hours set aside for “Liberty Weekend,” and will lead off with an hourlong preview of things to come Wednesday night at 8. CBS and NBC will cover some events as well. For what’s on when, please see Watchables on opposite page.
