Negotiators for 114 producers and about 90,000 actors continued their efforts to hammer out a new three-year movie and television production contract. The existing contract was set to expire at 12:01 a.m. today, but neither side in the talks was anticipating a walkout by actors. Taking part in the talks were producers’ representatives and negotiators for the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The principal issues were said to be actors’ demands for a 25% wage increase and producers’ demands for reduced residual payments for videocassette and pay-TV movies.
