Passengers Unhurt as Plane Hits Deer
Aviation had a brush with nature on a runway Monday.
Two deer jumped the 8-foot-high fence around Stapleton Airport and ran onto the runway in front of a Continental Airlines flight that was taking off for Salt Lake City with 68 passengers aboard, airport officials said. The plane struck one of the deer, a buck, and killed it, but the other animal kept running and apparently was not hit, airport officials said.
The damaged jet lifted off safely, then returned to the airport for repairs, authorities said. No passengers were injured.
