A 20-year-old Santa Barbara County man has been arrested in the shooting death of a gas station attendant in Camarillo, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.

Todd Michael Hess of Carpinteria was arrested without incident late Monday afternoon in a restaurant parking lot in Carpinteria, Lt. Larry Weimer, head of the sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, said.

Hess is expected to be arraigned this week on charges of murder and armed robbery in the death of Scott James, an Ojai resident who was killed Sunday night at a Camarillo filling station.

Eyewitnesses and unspecified physical evidence led authorities to Hess, according to Weimer. Hess was being held Tuesday in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
