Lynwood : No Kidding, No Fireworks

Share

For the first time in more than 30 years, the city will not have its annual Fourth of July fireworks display at Lynwood Park because it could not get fireworks companies to perform the show.

One company, Pyro Spectaculars of Rialto, failed to acquire the $1 million in liability insurance required by the city, and the other company, Zambelli International Fireworks of Fontana, could not provide the necessary material in time, said Harold Mattoon, director of recreation and parks.

The city was to have paid $3,500 for the show.

Mattoon said the companies are helping produce the Fourth of July Statue of Liberty extravaganza in New York City. “We were dealing with the top companies but there is nothing we can do now,” he said.

Mayor Robert Henning said he is disappointed and angry that the city will be without fireworks.

“One company (Pyro Spectaculars) said it could only get $500,000 in liability insurance. I would have been willing to accept that,” Henning said.
