Helping the Poor in America
I risk being called at best a party pooper, at worst unpatriotic, by expressing dismay at all the money spent to rededicate the Statue of Liberty. With our millions of homeless, hungry and sick, it seems our values are somewhat askew if a stone statue (even such a fine symbol) is regarded as more deserving than our human brothers and sisters. It brings to mind the treasures of gold and food lavished on the gods and goddesses of ancient times.
Sorry, folks, I think that before we waved our flags and sang “God Bless America” we should have cared for our “poor, downtrodden masses,” which was the whole idea of the Statue of Liberty in the first place.
