Fiji Residents Repel Army of Furry Worms
Residents in Nausori claimed victory Wednesday over an army of millions of furry worms that invaded the town from the banks of a local river.
The 1 1/2-inch creatures crept around bus and taxi stands, disrupted a festival in the main park, and advanced on shops and homes in the small town northeast of Suva.
The worms grew in vast numbers after recent floods and came to town in search of food after the rice crop had been harvested, according to health inspector Shiu Madri. Officials said gallons of insecticide finally stemmed the tide.
