Pitcher Dennis (Oil Can) Boyd of the Boston Red Sox became enraged and stormed out of Fenway Park Thursday night after learning he had not been picked for the American League All-Star team.

Told by a reporter that Kansas City Manager Dick Howser had bypassed him as one of the AL’s eight pitchers, Boyd began shouting and throwing clothes around as he took off his uniform before the Red Sox’s game with the Angels.

The clubhouse was ordered cleared for what the Red Sox called “a team meeting.” Boyd then left the ballpark.

“I’ll sit down and talk with (Manager) John McNamara and then (co-owner) Haywood Sullivan and I will decide on what action to take tomorrow,” General Manager Lou Gorman said after the incident.

Boyd, who has an 11-6 record with a 3.71 earned-run average, was disappointed at being passed over for the All-Star game for the second year in a row.

He was not selected by Detroit Manager Sparky Anderson last year despite an 11-7 record at the All-Star break.
