Local News in Brief : Convicted Arsonist Held in Sylmar Fire
A convicted arsonist has been arrested on suspicion of setting a brush fire Tuesday that burned about 200 acres along the Golden State Freeway in Sylmar, authorities said Friday.
David Lee Boyd, 37, of Pacoima was arrested Thursday by Los Angeles City Fire Department arson investigators and was being held without bail in County Jail, Fire Inspector Ed Reed said. No date was set for Boyd’s arraignment, Reed said.
Boyd, who was on parole following a previous arson conviction, was detained at the scene of Tuesday’s fire north of Mission Hills, Reed said. He was not arrested at the time, but was hospitalized because authorities believed he was under the influence of drugs, Reed said.
Boyd was convicted of setting three separate fires that burned three acres in the Cahuenga Pass area of Hollywood in 1983, Reed said.
