Damage from the first major brush fire of the season was kept to a minimum as only about 40 acres were charred in a blaze that broke out along the Ortega Highway east of San Juan Capistrano.

No one was injured in the blaze, which was brought under control by more than 200 firefighters using aerial tankers and bulldozers.

With 90-degree temperatures and low relative humidity, the fire had the potential to develop into a much larger one, according to Capt. Joe Kerr of the Orange County Fire Department.
