The Region : Man Sues Hospital Over AIDS Report

Share

A West Hollywood man sued County-USC Medical Center, saying he was suspended from his substitute teaching job because the hospital erroneously told his employer that he had AIDS. In his Los Angeles Superior Court suit, Allan Rodway said the hospital violated state law when it mistakenly reported to the Los Angeles Unified School District that he had acquired immune deficiency syndrome after he had a blood test. State law makes it illegal to disclose the results of an AIDS test to a third party. Rodway’s attorney, Douglas Goldstein, said the report was supposed to have been sent to an insurance company. Rodway was suspended from his job in March but was later reinstated when another physician informed the district that he did not have the fatal disease, the suit said.
