Redden Is Listed as Starter in Ram Two-Back Offense

Ram Coach John Robinson announced Thursday that running back Barry Redden, whose name was being mentioned in trade speculation, would report to training camp with the rest of the team’s veterans July 26 and would be listed as the team’s starting fullback.

“He has one year left on his contract, and I think he has every intention of fulfilling it,” Robinson said after speaking with Redden by phone Thursday morning. “I have every confidence he can have a great season for us.”

Provided, of course, that the right offer doesn’t come along.

Redden, who has played behind Eric Dickerson for the past three seasons, is expected to become a starter in Robinson’s new two-back offense, but his status with the Rams was in doubt this May when he failed to attend a mini-camp intended to begin implementing that offense.

Robinson said Redden would eventually like to play on the East Coast, and that the Rams would accomodate him “if it can be worked out to where it’s mutually beneficial for him and us.”

Former University of Washington quarterback Hugh Millen, the Rams’ third-round draft choice, agreed to terms and attended his first workout.
