Northridge Man Held in Pacoima Shooting Death

A Northridge resident was arrested on suspicion of murder Thursday night after the shooting of a Pacoima man, Los Angeles police said.

The victim, Jose Pratti Camargo, 51, was taken by ambulance to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where he was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m., Detective Jim Vojtecky said.

Willie Smith, 69, was arrested at the scene of the shooting and was taken to Van Nuys Jail, where he is being held without bail, Officer Dean Morris said.

Camargo was in the parking lot of a small shopping center in the 11600 block of Glenoaks Boulevard in Pacoima when he was shot about 8:30 p.m., Vojtecky said. About 30 witnesses were taken to the Foothill Division police station in Pacoima for questioning after the shooting, he said.

Police are testing a weapon they recovered to determine whether it was used in the shooting.
