A 23-year-old Camarillo man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving in a wrong-way freeway accident that left two people dead and two injured, the Ventura County district attorney’s office reported Tuesday.

Charges were filed Monday against Anthony Anderson, who on May 26 drove his car the wrong way on U.S. 101 north of Ventura and slammed into a car carrying three men, said Jim Grunert, a deputy district attorney.

The accident killed Arturo Morales, 20, of Maywood and Manuel Miranda, 21, of Bell. Another passenger in Morales’ car, Victor Silvetti, 21, of Maywood, suffered a broken leg and severe cuts.

Anderson, who is in a body cast from broken bones and internal injuries, was not taken into custody because of his medical condition, said California Highway Patrol Capt. Don Leach.

Anderson’s blood contained an alcohol level of .11% at the time of the crash, Grunert said.

He faces a maximum penalty of eight years in prison if convicted, Grunert said.
